Gamification is also likely to increase in importance, driven primarily via mobile. “If your event has an event app, include a mechanism that gives away freebies or incentives to attendees – a free coffee for every piece of feedback given, a personalised notebook for the most liked or shared photo posted on your social media channel. These make people feel they’ re really part of something,” says Selene Chin.
Apps that give out ‘mobile stamps’ are becoming popular too, she adds – if a participant visits three booths or exhibits they receive a stamp; if they collect five, they get a goodie bag. Planners can also consider creating a parallel and complementary activity, driven by technology, that evolves alongside their event, such as a quiz posted on social media about the event, or letting attendees tag themselves in social photos from the event.
“No matter who a participant is or what they do, speaking to them at this inclusive and entertaining level will always get results,” Chin explains.
